This Is the Highest Betrayal” – Kwankwaso Blasts NNPP Defectors to APC
Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has condemned the defection of top NNPP figures to the APC, calling it a betrayal of trust and the people’s mandate. He made the remarks while receiving loyal supporters from Takai LGA who reaffirmed their support for the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State and National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has expressed strong disapproval over the recent defection of key New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) members to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing a crowd of loyal supporters at his Miller Road residence in Kano on Friday evening, Kwankwaso labeled the defections as a “political betrayal of the highest order.”
The former governor was speaking during a visit by hundreds of loyal supporters from Takai Local Government Area, who rejected the APC and reaffirmed their commitment to the NNPP and Kwankwasiyya ideology.
Kwankwaso: “They Have Abandoned the People”
Without naming names directly, Kwankwaso referenced the recent defection of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, and other federal lawmakers.
“Kano South is a lesson. Voters rejected superghetti, N200 and Atamfa and were patient to vote for the NNPP,” Kwankwaso said.
“But those who won on our platform have abandoned the people and returned to those who only care about themselves and their families.”
Kwankwaso stressed that leaving the party that empowered one to win elections is the “worst political sin.”
A Warning to the Youth
He also used the occasion to caution young people to be wary of politicians who switch sides purely for personal gain.
“Fighting Kwankwasiyya is not easy,” he said. “Those who left will regret their decision in due time.”
Support From Party Leaders
The Kano State NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, praised the Takai LGA supporters for “taking the bold step to stand with the people.” He assured them of equal treatment and recognition within the party.
Also in attendance were:
-
Senator Rufai Sani Hanga (Kano Central)
-
Former Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Falali
-
Chairman of Takai Local Government, Ibrahim Faruruwa
The event was a strong show of force for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, reinforcing its grassroots support despite recent defections.
