UNILORIN VC Hails JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede’s Transparent Leadership on 2025 UTME Errors
Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), has applauded JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede for his transparent and ethical handling of the 2025 UTME errors. In a letter dated May 15, the VC praised JAMB’s forthrightness and commended Oloyede’s courage in admitting faults and taking responsibility, even though the issues stemmed from external service providers.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), has commended the leadership of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) under the stewardship of Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, especially for the Board’s transparent management of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) controversies.
In a letter dated May 15, 2025, and shared publicly via social media, Prof. Egbewole noted that the Board handled the situation with remarkable truthfulness and accountability — a move he described as “uncommon in Nigeria.”
JAMB’s Open Admission of Error
The JAMB Registrar, during a press briefing earlier in the week, openly admitted that the 2025 UTME was marred by errors, affecting over 300,000 candidates nationwide. Rather than deflect blame, Prof. Oloyede took full responsibility, despite clarifying that the fault originated from a third-party service provider.
“As a University, we want to put on record the fact that the Board approached the issues that arose on the result with truthfulness and nothing was hidden from the public,” the Vice Chancellor wrote.
A Lesson in Integrity and Leadership
Prof. Egbewole lauded Prof. Oloyede for displaying what he called “courage, honesty of purpose, integrity, and strength of character.” According to the VC, this level of accountability offers a powerful example to younger generations and stands in contrast to the culture of denial often associated with leadership crises in the country.
Pride of UNILORIN
Prof. Oloyede, a distinguished alumnus of the University of Ilorin, was also hailed as a “worthy ambassador” of the institution. Prof. Egbewole expressed pride in his accomplishments and prayed for divine guidance and greater service to Nigeria.
Looking Ahead
The 2025 UTME sparked widespread concern due to technical glitches, incomplete results, and disruptions in over 379,000 candidates’ assessments. However, JAMB’s swift apology, commitment to rescheduling affected candidates, and transparent updates have been widely praised as examples of responsible leadership.
