Ohanaeze Declares David Umahi Most Outstanding Southeast Leader, Backs Tinubu for Second Term
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-political group, has named Minister of Works David Umahi as the most effective political figure from the Southeast, surpassing peers like Peter Obi and Governor Hope Uzodimma. The group also endorsed Bola Tinubu for a second term, naming Umahi as the region’s new political leader.
The apex Igbo socio-political group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has declared that Minister of Works, David Umahi, has outperformed top Southeast political figures — including former Anambra Governor Peter Obi and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma — in driving regional development.
In a statement signed by its Deputy President General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and National Spokesperson, Thompson Ohia, Ohanaeze said it had reviewed the track records of various Southeast leaders and found Umahi's performance to be unmatched.
“The findings from this comprehensive analysis present an irrefutable case that Senator Dave Umahi’s leadership distinguishes itself above all others, particularly in contrast to Mr. Peter Obi and Governor Hope Uzodimma,” the group stated.
Ohanaeze highlighted Umahi’s accomplishments as both a former Chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum and in his current role as Minister of Works. Key achievements cited include:

The group referred to Umahi’s current projects as “revolutionary,” crediting his leadership for elevating the region’s national relevance.
In a significant political move, Ohanaeze also declared its full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid, appointing Umahi as the new Igbo National Political Leader tasked with mobilising regional support.
“As President Tinubu approaches the two-year milestone of his presidency on May 29, 2027, Ohanaeze Ndigbo conveys our unwavering assurance that Senator Dave Umahi is the singular, trusted political leader of the Southeast,” the group added.
