Gov Alia presents 2025 supplementary budget to Benue Assembly

Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Alfred Berger Emberga, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, received the 2025 Supplementary Budget from the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia.

The submission seeks approval for the Statewide Revision of Votes in the already approved 2025 Budget focusing on Human Capital Development, Food Security, and the Digital Economy, to serve as the Benue State Supplementary Budget for the 2025 fiscal year.

In a formal communication to the Speaker and Members of the Assembly, Governor Alia explained that the supplementary budget had become essential to accommodate unexpected yet critical financial obligations that emerged after the passage of the initial 2025 budget.

He noted that the revised fiscal plan demonstrates his administration’s strong commitment to addressing key developmental needs and ensuring effective service delivery to the people of Benue State.

The Governor clarified that the total approved 2025 budget size remains at N550.1 billion, but adjustments have been made to some sectoral and statewide allocations to reflect new realities.

He emphasized that the ratio between recurrent and capital expenditures continues to favor capital investment, stating the government’s determination to sustain economic growth and infrastructural expansion across the state.

The revised budget provides additional funding for human capital development through improved educational infrastructure, enhanced teacher training, and strengthened healthcare delivery systems.

In the area of agriculture and food security, funds have been realigned to support irrigation projects and increase agricultural productivity in response to emerging food security challenges.

Infrastructure development has also received more attention, with greater allocations for road construction, electricity extension, and water supply schemes designed to enhance connectivity and the quality of life.

Governor Alia also pointed out that security and public safety have been given higher priority, with more resources dedicated to improving surveillance systems, boosting community policing, and enhancing overall protection of lives and property.

The digital economy component of the revised budget has been adjusted to expand digital infrastructure, promote e-governance initiatives, and support youth-driven technological innovations across Benue State.

He expressed confidence that the supplementary budget will enable the government to effectively respond to emerging challenges, accelerate project delivery, and promote sustainable socio-economic progress throughout the state.

The Governor appealed to the Members of the Benue State House of Assembly to give the budget prompt consideration and approval to ensure its timely implementation.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, Governor Alia assured the Assembly that comprehensive documents detailing the revised allocations have been submitted for legislative review.

He also expressed gratitude to the Speaker and Members for their continued cooperation and commitment to the growth and development of Benue State.

After the presentation, the budget was read for the second time and referred to the House Committee on Appropriation for detailed examination and further legislative action.
