Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Legal Team Cries Foul Over “Selective Justice” After FG Files Criminal Charges
The legal representatives of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan have raised alarm over what they describe as a “disturbing pattern of selective justice,” following the Federal Government’s decision to file criminal charges against her.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by her counsel, Uju Nwoduwu, the legal team highlighted a series of 12 formal petitions the senator had filed between March and May 2025—none of which, they claim, have been acted upon by the Nigeria Police Force or any other relevant security agency.
Ignored Petitions, Rushed Prosecution
The petitions reportedly include serious allegations such as cyberstalking, defamation, threats to life, and an alleged assassination attempt involving a protocol officer.
“There is a legitimate public expectation that law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies uphold the principles of fairness, due process, and equal justice—regardless of who is involved,” the legal team stated.
According to Nwoduwu, many of the unresolved petitions implicate high-ranking government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Despite the gravity of these complaints, the team noted that counter-allegations from some of the accused have been pursued swiftly, culminating in criminal charges against Akpoti-Uduaghan herself.
“Biased Justice System”?
“This glaring disparity raises serious concerns about a biased and uneven application of justice,” the statement read.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is currently abroad on personal engagements, has acknowledged the charges and expressed willingness to return for arraignment once a date is confirmed.
“She remains resolute in her commitment to due process,” the team affirmed, thanking the public for its support amid what they called “an extraordinarily questionable criminal charge.”
Call for Equal Justice
The legal team concluded by urging the relevant authorities to launch impartial investigations into all outstanding petitions, stressing that justice must be served without fear or favour.
