Tension has gripped Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State following the abduction of Nelson Adepoyigi, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifon Ward 5.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday evening along the Benin-Ifon-Owo expressway, a notorious stretch that has seen multiple security breaches in recent times. Adepoyigi was said to have been kidnapped at the entrance of his farm.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, revealed that a joint operation is currently underway to rescue the victim.

“I can confirm to you that the chairman APC ward 5 was kidnapped at the entrance of his farm along Ifon-Owo road,” Ayanlade said.

He added that security agencies had swiftly mobilized to the area upon receiving the report.

“At the receipt of the report, the DPO Ifon, in collaboration with the hunters, local VGN (Vigilante Group of Nigeria) and Nigerian Army personnel, have launched a manhunt for the suspects,” he added.

As of the time of this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction, and it is unclear if any ransom demand has been made.

The Ondo State Police Command is urging residents and anyone with helpful information to assist in the rescue operation. Citizens are also advised to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies immediately.

This latest abduction adds to growing concerns about the state of insecurity in rural parts of Ondo State and the vulnerability of political figures and community leaders.
