FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday for Workers' Day, Urges Innovation and Productivity

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday in celebration of this year’s Workers’ Day. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Tuesday.

In his address, the Minister lauded Nigerian workers for their unwavering commitment and sacrifice, noting that their efforts significantly contribute to the nation's progress and the respect Nigeria commands globally.

“There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” Tunji-Ojo emphasized.

He also reiterated the importance of peace as a key driver of industrialization and economic development, urging workers across all sectors to embrace a culture of innovation and enhanced productivity. According to him, raising the standard of work in every trade will not only uplift governance but also ensure that the wealth of the nation benefits all Nigerians.

As part of the celebration, Tunji-Ojo reassured citizens of the Federal Government’s commitment to the safety of lives and property, both for citizens and foreigners alike.

“While wishing workers a happy celebration, the Honourable Minister urged Nigerians to keep hope alive as the present administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda he has promised,” the statement concluded.
