EFCC Clarifies Arrest of Martins Vincent Otse VDM Over Financial Crime Allegations
According to the Commission, Otse was invited to respond to multiple petitions involving serious allegations of financial malfeasance. These petitions, the EFCC stated, are substantial and fall squarely within its mandate to investigate and prosecute economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued an official statement regarding the arrest and detention of Martins Vincent Otse, clarifying the circumstances surrounding the ongoing investigation and public concerns.
According to the Commission, Otse was invited to respond to multiple petitions involving serious allegations of financial malfeasance. These petitions, the EFCC stated, are substantial and fall squarely within its mandate to investigate and prosecute economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.
Despite repeated invitations delivered through verified channels of communication, Otse reportedly failed to honour the Commission’s requests. This refusal prompted further lawful steps, including securing a Remand Order to hold him in custody for the continuation of investigations.
The EFCC noted that although Otse has made several unguarded verbal attacks against the agency and its operations, these remarks did not influence the decision to arrest him. "Such conduct is condemnable," the EFCC said, "but a relevant law enforcement agency will handle those comments accordingly."
The Commission emphasised that Otse has been granted administrative bail and will be released upon fulfilling the necessary bail conditions. The EFCC reiterated that it is simply carrying out its lawful duties and urged the public to avoid unfounded insinuations regarding its motives.
"The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favour," the statement read. "As soon as investigations are concluded, charges will be filed."
The EFCC also expressed gratitude for the public's keen interest in its operations, acknowledging the passionate and enthusiastic responses from Nigerians across the country.
