Brothers Nabbed for Kidnapping, Robbery of Abraka Man—Spent Ransom on Mother’s Rent
Two brothers, Maxwell and Samuel Mathew, have been arrested by Delta State police for allegedly kidnapping and robbing a man of ₦70 million, his Benz SUV, iPhone 16 Plus, and cash in Abraka. Shocking twist: the suspects used part of the loot to pay their mother's rent.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested two brothers, Maxwell Mathew and Samuel Mathew, for their involvement in the kidnapping and robbery of Mr. Patrick Omoregie in the Abraka area of Ethiope-East Local Government Area.
According to sources, the duo, notorious for terrorizing the Abraka community, abducted Omoregie at gunpoint and forcibly transferred ₦70 million from his bank account. They also stole his GLC 300 Mercedes Benz, an iPhone 16 Plus, and ₦150,000 in cash.
Human rights activist, Comrade Israel Joe, who confirmed the arrests on Wednesday, May 6, 2025, said the suspects were apprehended by the police at a hotel in Benin City, Edo State, where they were reportedly planning to sell the stolen vehicle.
In a bizarre twist, the suspects allegedly used part of the stolen money to pay their mother’s rent in Abraka.
Police investigations have led to the recovery of ₦30 million out of the ₦70 million transferred from the victim’s account. The case has since been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Delta State Police Command for further investigation.
Joe called on the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, to ensure the case is thoroughly investigated and the suspects prosecuted to the full extent of the law, stressing that it would serve as a strong deterrent to other criminal elements in the state.
