The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a strategic redeployment of Divisional police officers, DPOs, across the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, ahead of saturday’s area council elections.

The move, announced by FCT Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye, is aimed at boosting security and ensuring a smooth, peaceful voting process.

“The redeployment is meant to strengthen operational readiness and guarantee that officers discharge their duties fairly and professionally,” Dantawaye said.

“We are committed to upholding law and order before, during, and after the elections; we appeal to all residents to exercise patience, respect the law, and play their part in ensuring a peaceful election.”

The reshuffle affects multiple divisions within the FCT, with officers instructed to report to new assignments immediately.

Residents have been urged to remain calm, participate responsibly in the elections, and report any suspicious activity.

In addition, the FCT Police announced a restriction of movement from 8:00 pm Friday, February 20, until 6:00 pm Saturday, February 21.

Exceptions apply only to essential service providers and election officials, as part of efforts to secure polling areas and prevent disruptions.
