Sabi Girl Ayra Starr and Starboy Wizkid are back with another sonic treat — and this time, it’s pure island-flavored magic. On Thursday, April 24, Ayra dropped her highly anticipated single “Gimme Dat,” marking another smooth collab with Wizkid that’s already turning heads and heating up playlists.
The track, co-produced by VybeO and Mikabeatz, is a vibrant, tropical-tinged dancefloor filler with a nostalgic edge — thanks to a slick sample from Wyclef Jean and Mary J. Blige’s 2000 classic “911.” That hit not only charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B/Hip-Hop charts but also bagged a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.
A week before the release, Ayra teased the collab on Instagram with a dreamy sunset video of herself vibing to the song — before it cut to Wizkid’s sultry line, “God da–” — a moment she cheekily used as the caption. Let’s just say, fans knew something big was coming.
“Gimme Dat” isn’t the first time these two Afrobeats heavyweights have worked their magic together. Their first link-up was on “2 Sugar” from Wizkid’s More Love, Less Ego album (2022), a track that earned a nomination for Best Afrobeats at the inaugural MTV VMAs in 2023.
Both Ayra Starr and Wizkid are no strangers to Grammy nods either. Ayra scored one with her global hit “Rush,” while Wizkid notched his fifth with “MMS” featuring Asake, under the new Best African Music Performance category.
With “Gimme Dat,” the duo once again proves they’re a dream team — blending retro soul, Afrobeats rhythm, and undeniable star power.
